This Marcus & Co. platinum brooch, circa 1900, came across my desk while appraising in 2013. It was undoubtedly the most beautiful piece of jewelry I've ever held in my hand! The heir wanted to sell the brooch, so it went to Sotheby's for auction, and while the estimated price was between $15-20K, the hammer landed at $179K! Stunning emerald, 12 natural pearls and 3 carats total in diamonds, it was spectacular. Painting this brooch was pure joy for me!
